Dinosaur Bones! Part 2

I shot a photo a while back of me working on this piece and showed it off on the blog. And, while I can't show you the final version yet, I can at least show you how the piece is coming along.

The final version is an alternate cover for a friend's book he's doing and, until he actually solicits the issue, I feel better about not letting the cat out of the bag.

But, I didn't think it would hurt too much to show off the background for the cover.

I can't wait to show off the finished piece. Hopefully I can post it soon.

Sports Illustrated Kids - March

 This week I've started the newest round of illustrations for Sports Illustrated Kids so I figured it was about time for March's "What's The Call" illustrations!

This month I did pieces for baseball, football, and golf. Here are the scenarios for this month:

Baseball: Louisville Lightning catcher Omar Clayton jumps up to throw out a Jacksonville Sunshine's pinch runner who is attempting to steal second base and makes contact with the home plate umpire. Clayton drops the balls and the runner reaches second base. The Sunshine think their runner is safe, while the Lightning argue he must go back to first base because of umpire interference. You're the official. What's the call?

Football: During a third quarter kickoff, Heyward Hikers Bart Fuller boots the football toward Pasadena Pilots Sal Parrish, who waits for the ball near his own end zone. The ball lands just shy of the Pilots goal line and rolls to a stop at about the four-yard line. Instead of picking up the ball and returning it, Parrish puts one foot on the sideline and fields it. The Pilots look for a flag on the play as they believe the kickoff is out of bounds because Parrish's foot was on the sideline. The Hikers object. You're the referee. Is the ball out of bounds? 

Golf: Lynette Cordoza fails to get her first shot out of the bunker during a golf tournament. In frustration, she takes an extra swing and makes contact with the sand. Her swing doesn't affect the ball, however her opponents say she should be penalized for hitting the sand. You're the official. Does Cardoza incur a penalty for her extra swing?

Morning Coffee

 Here is another piece I did of Nicole Baylor from OilCan Drive. I didn't do this one for any reason other than I wanted to do it. And sometimes that makes for the best art.

I recently started drinking coffee about a month ago as a substitute for Diet Coke. So far it's gone really well and I didn't realize all the things that drinking soda was doing to me until I stopped. So, I figured maybe someone else in the OCD band might enjoy a morning cup of Joe!

Of course, I don't look nearly as good as Nicole does as I am sipping my coffee but what can you do?

Here is a piece of Nicole that I did for the newest OilCan Drive book that I've been working on.

Over the last few weeks things have gone slowly on the new book and I honestly don't know if I'll get it done in time for the next Denver Comic Con. But, I'll keep plugging away at it and we'll see what happens.

Even if I don't get it done in time for print by the con, at the very least, I'll be further along with it than I would be if I didn't work on it at all.

That counts as a win, right?
